Quartzsite and Rice Ranch

We spent the night of Sunday, 18 October, in Winslow at the Elks Lodge. Weird place, and hard to get in and out of the site. The satellite view did not show the “updated” lot with only 3 sites and very little space to turn in and out. Oh well, we got in with a lot of wiggling! We were up and out by 8:00 on Monday to head to Quartzsite, and we made it in the early afternoon. We arrived to all types of confusion. First, the RV park had not read Kevin’s message that we were coming in on Monday instead of Tuesday. Second, they gave our site away to someone else! We had very explicitly picked a certain site, and because someone else’s site wasn’t ready, they just decided to move us. I was pretty irritated – no phone call, no discussion, and we only found out when the little golf cart led us to the wrong spot. They went to the interloper’s to get them to move, but they weren’t home. We ended up moving for the season to another site, nice enough, but not the one I wanted. Oh well.

It is so, so, so nice to set up and not have to plan on moving in a day! We will be here until Thursday, 5 November. We do plan on getting the coach propane filled up before we leave, so we will drive it the block away to do that, but then stay put here until/unless we need propane again. Relaxing! Here is a sunset silhouette of our site looking west. Notice we have our own little palm tree!

The campground was actually pretty surprising. Now that the worst of the summer weather is over and they have mostly (not completely) recovered from a massive flood, they are adding a lot of new amenities. There is a pool poured thought the decking is still in work, a shower building associated with the pool, a cute little log-look sauna of the type you see in big box stores, a big fenced dog park with a small covered shelter, and they are currently planting a lot of palms and shrubs. The palms now surround the pool area, and the dog park is surrounded by a raised planing bed with a bunch of shrubs in it. I haven’t gone over to see what type. They added a small laundry room and restrooms too. The place is set up as a full hook up campground, so I don’t think the restroom will get much service. Even the laundry might not get a lot because most of the units here are big rigs, and a lot of us have our own washers and dryers. The gardeners are still here though, so who knows what else will be going in. They already had pickle ball courts and a big covered pavilion from last season. I am guessing rates will go up next year LOL!

We also visited some friends who are stying in the LTVA, had pizza from Silly Al’s, and went to Yuma to both buy an updated TV for the outside TV spot and eat at Yuma Thai. As always, I had some leftovers, and I half of them for lunch today. Kevin is ready to try out the new pellet smoker he got on some chicken thighs and a chicken breast.

My ukulele has been getting a workout too. It is so lovely today that I played outside for about 45 minutes.
